Abstract In this paper, we identify the old image attached to the term “innovation”. The results show that the study of innovation emerged from new combinations of scientific philosophy and practical problems of the days. While currently there are few people willing to abide by this concept, the roots of this idea confirm that the introduction of the term innovation into economics was a sign of a revolution in the social sciences. Though such a change did not come about at the time, information technologies are now forcing social science to revolutionise its structure from within, incessantly destroying old experiences and creating new sensations. We cannot continue to talk about politics and economy as if it were a controllable game, or about society as if it were a drama in the theatre or on television.
